Hello, bbs! Time for the end of the year fic meme, I'm afraid. Here we go.
favorite story this year (of my own): You realize the sun doesn't go down, definitely. That story came after a long drought of bandom writing for me, totally out of nowhere, and it's longer and has more of an overarching plot than most things I write, and I still think about that universe.
most popular story this year, in my opinion: Technically this might also be You realize the sun doesn't go down, but it was A Boat That Can Love the Rocks And the Shore (the Gerard/Mikey/Frank one) that really surprised me with the response.
most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: there's no way to answer this without sounding like a douche, but the biggest difference between how much I loved something and how much response it got was probably with the Ray/Gerard 1940s AUs, especially the second one.
most fun story: gone to the moon about you is kind of jampacked with things I love about Pete/Mikey, which made it a lot of fun to write.
sexiest story: Uhhh I think it is probably the underage waycest genderfuck porn, but that really just says a lot about me, doesn't it?
"holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I still don't know what's going on with My Dove is Home, aka the commentfic where Mikey is dead and Pete is a medium and then they have sex in Pete's brain. *hands*
story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: feel better the heavier they get. I've loved Gerard/Brian as a pairing for a long time, but I usually default to the way we see them in LotMS, that really strong caretaker Brian and freaky Gerard being cared for. Writing them present-day, with all the stuff that's changed since then, was really different.
hardest story to write: I guess my
popoffacork story doesn't count, since it's not being posted until New Year's, so I'll go instead with break and take all the words from my mouth. I wrote the first part of this story and was totally, utterly stuck. It was only
impertinence coming in to collaberate and add to it and fix it up that made it an actual story.
biggest disappointment: Reproductive Stategies of the Interstellarly Nomadic. In my head I have SO MUCH to say about the Crichton-Sun family, post Peacekeeper Wars, but I have no idea how to get it out.
biggest surprise: Bad Things Coming, We Are Safe. I was so not expecting to write Wizards of Waverly Place fic, but I am so glad I did.
most telling story: I always find this question impossible to answer, because honestly, I tell you guys everything in my entries anyway. There is no mystery here. I am not stealth.
And Bex's addition:
ambitions for next year: I want to write more Wizards of Waverly Place, maybe some Disney RPF (Selena/Demi or Selena/D.Henrie). I'd love to get a Star Trek:TOS story or a Middleman story out. I think I might have more to say in the universe of You realize the sun doesn't go down, but a lot of that depends on discussions of someone else's possible sequel. Also I would love to pass 10,000 words on a story, but that has been a goal of mine since I started in fandom, and I haven't reached it yet, so who knows. Mostly, though, I just hope that the burst of creativity that hit this fall continues on, at least to some extent, because I went a long time without writing, and I much prefer it this way.

Thought #1: Er... okay?
Thought #2: Well, as long as he didn't campaign on a platform of "More Evil More Better" than I guess it's okay. I'd just hate to think he was backing off from another campaign promise.
A co-worker wondered if maybe he has a Superman costume in his closet that he puts on and looks at himself in the mirror, maybe pretend to fly. After a few minutes, he stops and puts the costume back in the closet, happy.

I have never actually done one of these, for reasons that should quickly* become obvious. I did do some rambly-rambling at the end of last year, the main conclusions of which was that I should stop being afraid of Real Vidders. February will mark three years since I posted my first vid.
Vids made in 2009:
January
Unsteady Ground - Merlin
June
Convenient Parking - Dexter/Criminal Minds
Dark Room - Merlin
August
Attention: Gotham City - Batman: The Dark Knight
* I am a punny girl! Once again, my vidding output for the year can be watched in less than ten minutes. This is an improvement, as last year's total was three vids and less than eight minutes.

I've been podbanged! (Wow, that sounds so wrong...) But the intrepid
lian_li and
fleurrochard workingtogether as "fleur-de-li" have taken on my DS story Eight Sessions (you know, the crazy one with the psychiatrists and the bowling.) Apparently it was just as hard as you'd think it would be, but we all get the results of their hard work, so if you like podfic--go, download, and don't forget to thank those guys!
some unknown person is copying the public entries of this livejournal to "xanthipe" on ourstory.com. since these entries are public and there's no contact information for this "xanthipe" available (contacting ourstory.com directly hasn't even gotten me an autoresponse), there's nothing i can do about this.
if you're thinking of copying anything from this journal onto another site, please ask me first. if you'd like to archive my fiction or meta, i will very likely say yes. if you are -- as this "xanthipe" is doing -- wanting to copy my personal daily chatter (went to a movie, yay curling game, etc.) i really really want to know why.
and also? keep my name attached and keep a link pointing back to me. don't copy my journal and post it as your own. sheesh.

If someone is a true believer, we say they've drunk the Koolaid. It occurs to me that the library analog would be that they've eaten the paste.
Or that could be what you think when you can smell ham but still have an hour to go before food's on the table.
I spent a lovely day up at Smutcutter's and Hippediva's. I provided ham, a book on pirates, and good conversation, they provided, well, everything else, from side dishes to yarn. Not to mention enough oranges to ward off scurvy for all the ships in the Pacific. 'twas a quiet day, save for the laughter, and as merry a Christmas as I should like.
The weekend may provide me some of the following: a viewing of most of this season's Dexter, hanging with the ex-roommates to do some power-tv watching and knitting, teaching a man I know to knit socks, finishing a scarf, starting another, finishing socks, and maybe a trip to the laundromat. As Dilbert says, "Life, be my wild mistress."
A very merry day after Christmas to you all, and a Happy New Year.

I cannot seem to get a comment box open, but I just managed to hide from the nieces and nephew long enough to read my Yuletide story, Life, stripped of all luxuries!!!!
OMG, it is the Chalion story I had decided I was going to have to requests forever! Caz and Palli under siege at Gotorget, developing beautifully--if grimly--into Caz/Palli under siege at Gotorget. And Cazaril is so very almost our Caz, slowly broken down until he's ready to invite the Gods in, and so proud of all his men. (And I am so glad I had already eaten breakfast before I read it or I expect I would be writhing in sympathy.) It makes me feel like I just found the missing prologue to Curse of Chalion, and now I need to go read the rest! THANK YOU, YULEWRITER!! ♥

Hey, darlings. I'm leaving in a few minutes to bus it down to spend the holiday with relatives. I'm not sure what my internet access is going to be like, but I am guessing I'll be missing most of the action on lj and twitter. I'll probably be checking my email regularly, though, so if you need me or if you're just bored or whatever, hit me up there. Anyone who has my phone number is welcome to text me, too.
Otherwise, I will see you guys Sunday or Monday. For those of you celebrating, have a super duper holiday. For the rest of you, enjoy the Yuletide archive.
PS Thank you so much to the nonny who sent me the snowflake last night! You are awesome and brightened my day.

Draco Malfoy and Jim Kirk have gone down the pub to bitch about how their childhoods WERE TOO unspeakably traumatic. Han Solo and Spock have shrugged off the whole silly competition, cheered up, and gotten on with being emo only occasionally and when it serves their purposes.
This brings us to the ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN for the worst of the worst and the least worst horrible fanon childhoods!

Ahem. Departing after the quarterfinal round from the Winners' Bracket for having really pretty unspeakable trauma but not being written by Jo Rowling or JJ Abrams: Lex Luthor, Daniel Jackson, Xander Harris, and Alex Krycek.
Departing from the Losers' Bracket for being altogether too hard to cheer up for the emo kids: Ray Veccchio, Seamus Harper, Vin Tanner, and Ezra Standish.
So! The semifinal round! Feel free to guess, vote against, and/or bribe your friends:

Okay, so there is a Mentalist Kink Meme, and I enjoy the Mentalist quite a bit, so I thought, hey! I will participate!
And then it turns out I kind of fail at kink memes so this took me three weeks and it's seven thousand words long and I can't even fit it into comment boxes back at the meme. But here it is! The original prompt, from an anon-commenter, was Jane/anyone; sex with Patrick is a one-way street (he gives but won't receive).
I think my version is slightly kinkier than that but I have long since lost the ability to tell.
It is het, though.
Jane/Van Pelt. NC-17. 7,000 words. post-"Bloodshot".
Thanks to
missmollyetc for beta!
It's nice having Jane all to herself.

To get the work of staggering genius out of the way first: Spork, An Erotic Love Story. Fangirls spent two months editing Zachary Quinto's voice on the Star Trek audiobook into three and a half minutes of ... oh God, you have to listen to it. GENIUS.

Hooboy, the choices are getting difficult!
Leaving the Winners' Bracket for having trauma that is not quite the most unspeakable: Dean Winchester, Fox Mulder, Wesley Wyndham-Price, Tony DiNozzo, Rodney McKay, Parker, Ken Hutchinson, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Leaving the Losers' Bracket for being emo kids who cannot be cheered up: Ryan Atwood, Eliot Spencer, Brendon Urie, Ianto Jones, Methos, Bodie, Horatio Hornblower, and Jim Ellison.
Top Eight Winners' Finalists (Unspeakable Trauma!):
1. Severus Snape (Harry Potter) - 91.4%
2. Harry Potter - 89.6%
3. Lex Luthor - 75.0%
4. Draco Malfoy - 74.5%
5. Daniel Jackson - 70.9%
6. Jim Kirk - 66.0%
7. Xander Harris - 54.3%
8. Alex Krycek - 50.5%
Bottom Eight Losers' Finalists (Cheer Up, Emo Kid!):
1. Spock (Star Trek (2009)) - 28.1%
2. Han Solo - 30.0%
3. Jess Mariano (Gilmore Girls) - 30.6%
4. Arthur Pendragon (Merlin) - 31.6%
5. Vin Tanner (Magnificent Seven) - 39.8%
6. Ray Vecchio (Due South) - 40.2%
7. Ezra Standish (Magnificent Seven) - 40.3%
8. Seamus Harper (Andromeda) - 48.1%

Gacked from
lanning, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Review in 7 parts and it is *totally worth watching all seven parts I SWEAR TO YOU*. There is information in the Net, ABC is going to cancel two last episodes of Eastwick as well. I think, all of us here don't want this to happen. I really like Eastwick and it's getting more gripping and interesting with every episode. Since show's rating is going up too, ABC may change their mind. I think, we also could do a little something to see all season one, not just part of it. I suggest you to write to ABC and ask to find the way to show us all filmed episodes of Eastwick. You can e-mail here - http://abc.go.com/site/contact-us . Comments at the official Eastwick message board are also appreciated - http://abc.go.com/shows/eastwick/discuss?c at=278780 . Thank you for devoting you time to such a good cause!
ETA: Cancelling information source: http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2 009/12/ugly-betty-bounces-final-eastwick-e pisodes-shark-tank-returns.html .
ETA 2: Red Bath and Beyond has been scratched out but Magic Snow and Creepy Gene is listed for December 30th @ 10:00 p.m.

If my math is right (which it may not be) this is the Hemisemidemifinal Round!
Eliminated from Round 2 for having just sort of medium horrible fanon childhoods:
Winners' Bracket
Sam Winchester (Supernatural)
Benton Fraser (due South)
Ryan Ross (Panic at the Disco)
Archie Kennedy (Horatio Hornblower)
Nick Stokes (CSI)
Losers' Bracket
Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars)
Blair Sandburg (The Sentinel)
John Sheppard (Stargate Atlantis)
Spike (vampire childhood) (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Tom Paris (Voyager)
Meanwhile, Ken Hutchinson, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Alex Krycek, Parker, Wesley Wyndham-Price, and Draco Malfoy will be joining the Winners' Bracket (Unspeakable Trauma) quest for the worst of the worst fanon childhoods, and Eliot Spencer, Ryan Atwood, Brendon Urie, Spock, and Horatio Hornblower have been bumped down to the Losers' Bracket (Cheer Up, Emo Kid!) to contend for least-worst fanon childhood.
And now, the polls!
( Winners' Bracket, Hemisemidemifinal Round (Unspeakable Trauma) )
( Losers' Bracket, Hemisemidemifinal Round (Cheer Up, Emo Kid!) )

Polls will be open for a couple more hours, but I just want to encourage people to vote in both the Winners' Bracket Poll and the Losers' Bracket Poll because there is a tie at the moment and I don't want to deal with a run-off, okay? Okay.
Unrelatedly, you know how--I don't know if this actually happens, or if it is strictly a thing that happens to people on TV, but I am in fandom and TV is where my ideas about the emotional lives of other people come from--but you know how sometimes women get stressed and then get radical new haircuts?
Yeah, I bit off all my nails two days ago and now I am thinking of changing my default icon.

Explanations are over on the Winners' Bracket Poll Post. Without further ado, the Losers' Bracket (aka Cheer Up, Emo Kid!)
Bottom Five (whose fathers will, I assume, merely look disappointed and continue to withhold affection):
Ray Vecchio (Due South) - 7.3%
Arthur Pendragon (Merlin) - 11.0%
John Sheppard (Stargate Atlantis) - 21.8%
Ianto Jones (Torchwood) - 22.0%
Jess Mariano (Gilmore Girls) - 25.4%
( Losers' Bracket Matchups! )

Hokay, SO, taking a cue from
ellen_fremedon's Pan-Fandom Dead Off, we here at the Horrible Fanon Childhood Showdown will have a winners' bracket (Unspeakable Trauma) for the worst of the worst fanon childhoods, and also a losers' bracket (Cheer Up, Emo Kid!) for the least-worst fanon childhoods.
I was right about 42 making the math difficult, so the top 20 contestants from Round 1 are in the Winners' Bracket, while the bottom 22 (including one winner--PARKER I AM SO SORRY) are in the Losers' Bracket. After this round, the six worst childhoods from the Losers' Bracket will be bumped up to the Winners', and the five least-worst from the Winners' Bracket will be bumped down to the Losers', to help even out the results from some of the really hotly contested matchups in Round 1.
In this and all subsequent rounds, highest percentage vote-getter will be seeded against lowest.
And remember, THIS IS NOT ACTUAL SCIENCE, so feel free to guess. :)
So! The Winners' Bracket, aka UNSPEAKABLE TRAUMA.
Top Five after Round 1 (for which I am sure they will be punished):
Dean Winchester (Supernatural) - 92.7%
Harry Potter - 89.0%
Severus Snape (Harry Potter) - 78.2%
Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1) - 78.0%
Rodney McKay (Stargate Atlantis) - 74.6%
Actual poll is, once again, over at Dreamwidth, where you can vote with OpenID!
