My rats have developed an obsession with pipe cleaners. it's hilarious. do you think it's safe for them to play with them though? i bent the ends round so they wouldn't get poked, but they like to chew them.

Just saw a photo of a bunch of the season 8 top-ten Idol contestants goofing off together, and I got this strange rush of nostalgic warmth. :D I just haven't been following the actual people for a while, you know? :D :D :D

I've wanted a good recipe for this for ages, and tonight I cobbled together one that is just how I like it. Disclaimer: This may or may not be how YOU like it. But everything in it (except white pepper powder) can be got from Safeway and it was relatively easy. I took out the mushrooms, not being a mushroom fan, and stuck in some cabbage and water chestnuts because I thought they were tasty.

Left tier has 12 seedless red grapes for a year of goodluck, with yellow cheese boxer shorts/underwear for gold within the new year. Above is a Statue of Liberty pick with a rumball to represent watching the ball drop on TV in Times Square on top of chicken egg rolls.
Right tier has Rosemary and herb Chicken and roasted fries, with a cheese suitcase on top, to represent our walk around the neighborhood with a suitcase in tow. This will hopefully fulfill our wish of traveling in the new year.

Ok, unfortunately I can't offer you any fanfic, but I definitely have some thoughts to share.
Actually "thoughts" turned into "thought" because I forgot 2 out of 3.
Yesterday was my first work day after two weeks of vacation. That means on the night from sunday to monday I was unable to sleep and had a lot of time to think about...well anything.
I remember, that one thought was about Rose/Ten and one about Jack/Ten, but for the love of god, I can't remember. Maybe if I write more random stuff I will :D
But what I remember thinking about is this:
In "The end of time Part 1" we see how the Master is resurrected. He looks just like we remembered him, but when we see him later, jumping around, he is blond!
Now, there are possibly a lot of explanations, how that happened, but I stick with my conclusion:
The Master knows, that the Doctor likes blonds, so he dyed his hair to impress Ten.
Now if anyone could write THAT into a fic XD
While writing I still couldn't remember my other two thoughts, but I have a new one.
When the Master showed the Doctor his "Laser Screwdriver"...well...inuendo? Anyone? Sooo...would Captain Jack Harkness really let that one slide? I can just remember how that talk would sound like.
Jack: "Looks like the Master tried to compensate for something."
Ten: "What are you talking about?"
Jack: "Laser screwdriver? Please. Obviously you have the bigger 'screwdriver'" *wink*
Ten: "I'm not having a conversation about this!"
Jack: "Oh, so HE's bigger, then?"
Ten: "No, he's not!"
Jack: *grin*
Ten: *blush*
While I hope/wait for a response, I'm trying to remember my other thoughts.

Have come to the airport to meet 1TL. Sadly, his flight is delayed, so I'm killing time by using the MOST EXPENSIVE INTERNET IN THE WORLD. £1 for ten minutes. I suppose it's to discourage people from hogging it, but still. I could have used the net on my phone, but my battery is flagging (as always, it feels).
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if I'm in the correct terminal. For reasons that don't need explaining at this juncture, I'm winging it a little. 1TL doesn't actually know I'm going to be here.
14:40
I dreamt last night that I was in Jurassic Park. Not the movie, the place. And I kept getting nibbled on by velociraptors. I remember very clearly in my dream complaining that why didn't they take the killer dinos out after the last disaster, but clearly no one cared.
13:03
By the way, before I forget AGAIN... thanks so much to all the people who gave me snowflake cookies. They warmed my heart as only a snowflake cookie can.
11:35
I feel like I'm wishing my net time away with this countdown thing. Also, the more my minutes go down, the more the flight delay goes up. I hope everyone had a pleasant Christmas. I spent it with my friend E, who is getting married in April in Las Vegas and wants me to go. I'm havering, mostly because of my horrendous fear of flying.
10:13
This may be my most boring journal entry ever. Perhaps the spelling errors will make up for it. There are interesting people using the computers beside me. One man is just tapping the keyboard. Not hitting keys, just tapping it. Another is swinging in his chair. I'm not sure I'd pay 10p a minute to spin in a chair. Maybe that's just me.
08:35
TV shows I'm enjoying at the moment: Gavin & Stacey - which I'm including even though it just ended, because I'm still rewatching; Merlin - ditto; Better Off Ted; Psych - can't wait for the season to resume; Chuck - can't wait for the season to start. And probably more, but those are what spring to mind now.
06:24
I'd like to see a Merlin/Arthur AU of Gavin & Stacey. Could be charming.
05:57
Ok, I've resorted to checking out the talent coming through the gates. Of which there is not much. Argh, his flight has been delayed by another three minutes, making 47 in total. I suppose it could be worse.
Outside it is snowing gently, but thickly. As I drove along the A4 flyover with Radio One crackling on my poor car radio, it felt like one of those perfect moments.
04:08
I'll stop spamming you now, and start poking the people on my chat list for a little while. Happy New Year!

Does anyone remember my Spock Clanger?
Well, as the latest in my 'what the hell am I going to do with all this blue yarn' series, I kinda made an Andorian Clanger to go with him. (If you don't know what Andorians are, go here, and if you don't know what Clangers are, go here.)

But! As some of you might have noticed, I am very slowly uploading all of my stories from my own website, off of the old blog, off of random places, into the A3O archive. I have the attention span of a gnat on meth, and cannot be trusted to maintain any website, so once all of this is one, I have a centralized drop box for fic, everybody will be happy because it won't be an awful hunt to find all the stuff I have put up all over the internet. As of now, all of the fanfiction housed on my website through the Harry Potter fanfiction is now up on A3O, and a handful of other things, including (I think) all of my NCIS fiction.
So here is where I am getting my ass into trouble:
Is there a story of mine you have been looking for? That's NOT -- I repeat -- NOT on my website? (If you're not sure about this, CHECK HERE FIRST.) Is it in one of my old LJ posts that got private-locked a while back?
IF SO, leave me a comment with this information, if you can find it:
1. Title
2. URL where it should have been, but is broken or whatever
This is not a guarantee or anything, but I will be working when I have free time throughout the rest of my week off to put stuff where it belongs.

Going to get my crazy pills adjusted today. I've actually tried to stop using the word "crazy" on Twitter because I know there are people on my tweetstream who feel it is an "ableist" word and are hurt by it. I may or may not agree -- I consider myself fairly crazy at this point, and the word doesn't particularly hurt or offend me; nor does the word "lame," though it undeniably applies to me. Twitter, though, is more or less a conversation or series of conversations. In conversation, I think it is reasonable to avoid language that you know hurts people. So what if I'm not hurt by "crazy" or "lame"? That doesn't negate Jane Deaux's pain, and I'm tired of seeing people blow off genuine pain as "insistence on political correctness." I retweeted a good quote once, and I can't remember it exactly, but the gist was Why should I have to explain precisely how the knife you stuck in my back is hurting me before I can convince you to take it out?
There's no need to hurt people if you can easily avoid it. So many people online seem to ignore or gleefully defy that. But this journal is my place, my online living room if you will, and here I'll call myself crazy and lame if I like.

I can no longer afford to stay at school and can't go home so I'm moving to Arizona after May. I need a home for Sid and Johnny anywhere from St. Pete Florida, to Orlando Florida, to Daytona Beach. They come with the whole set up: cage (Superpet three level ferret cage), toys, water bottles, houses, chews, any food, cleaning supplies and extra litter I have at the time of pick-up or delivery. They (set up included) is free to anyone on this community. I might post this a couple times through out the semester if no one has responded lol. I know anyone on here would have the know-how to keep them happy and safe and hopefully post pictures so I can see what they've been up to. They're about 7 months old and are very loveable and sweet. For any responders, yes, I've called all the major airlines I would fly and none take rats. Please help. Thank you. :)
This is a link to my photostream. Most are of the boys. The grey one is Sid the topaz is Johnny.
Edit: here's the link lol

Title: Narcissism in a beautiful form pt. 2 and 3
Author
Charaters/Pairings: 10th Doctor/11th Doctor (I feel kind of special, the season with the 11th Doctor hasn't even started and I'm already shipping them...)
Canon Placement: Just to be safe, spoilers up to the end of The End Of Time Pt. 2, but it's set somewhere in the made up future of the show...
Rating: PG to PG-13 Hints of Boyxboy sex.
Warnings: Masturbation (in a way...) My complete disregard of all rules of time travel. Boyxboy kisses, complete girl bashing.
Disclaimer/Notes: I don't own Doctor Who, David Tennant, Matt Smith the TARDIS or in any way shape or form. They belong to the Doctor Who team/BBC/BBC America. Well actually David and Matt belong to themselves... A contnuation of this story ( Narcissim in a beautiful form pt 1 ) please read and review that as well seeing as this won't make much sense other wise. Also the two parts (in this story) don't necessarily come right after one another...
Summary: Stories with happy endings are my favorites...

I'm just making sure I've got the correct warnings on some of my old DCU stories and have come across a quandary.
Does it count as 'underage' if the person in question is a corpse? In the mouldering-in-the-ground sense, not the up-and-happily-wandering-around sense.
And, as the corpse can't give informed consent, does it also count as non-con?
Oh, DCU. You're a special place.

Life is magical... but full of pain.
The Jets are in the playoffs. Who woulda thunk it, a couple of weeks ago? The game against the Bengals was certainly impressive. Can they do it again, though? We'll see.
The Giants didn't play. I don't know who those guys in their unis were, but they sure were inept.
Goodbye, Bill Sheridan. A good guy, by all reports, but a horrendous defensive coordinator.
I meant to post yesterday on the weekend's games, but got busy writing instead, and finished a Tyrion chapter that I've been struggling with for six months. Nibbling away at that knot. We'll see if the finished chapter holds up to reread and polish today.

Maxine Udall has an interesting piece entitled The Price of Casino-Like Finance Is Higher Than We Think, in which she touches on many of the reasons why America is in so much trouble. Her thought processes are of a piece with Noam Schrieber's piece in The New Republic, Upper Mismanagement, and they dovetail nicely into my favorite boogeyman, the ongoing pressure by the Religious Right to destroy childhood incentives to go into the sciences.
Schrieber starts out by stating that for the past twenty years, the best minds in management have all been driven by business school ideals: not "make better stuff," but "make more money with the stuff we have." Converging with other threads of thought I've had over the decade, Schrieber points out that most upper managers come from business schools and know how to play the market game. No longer to CEOs (and even CTOs) come up through the engineering ranks, familiar with what the engineering departments are capable of producing; instead, they come from outside the business, full of knowledge about financial management, and are expected to figure out how to "leverage" what they can learn about engineering's "role" into financial success.
Udall goes deeper, and points out that engineering is probably full of mediocre minds who couldn't or wouldn't put their talents on the line for the hard-core stuff:
I'd like to add that ever since 1972, when the last Apollo mission returned to Earth, we have looked inward, looked downward. Hell, even the Space Shuttle rotates to face downward, toward the Earth, navel-gazing. Meanwhile, too much of America is scared that what science reveals makes the universe a scary place, a place without God or divine providence, and that the conclusions of biology are so unsettling its best that children not hear them. From an early age now, science curricula in pre-college classrooms has been dumbed down-- from the right, by fear of "naturalism," from the left, by fear that excellence by some will mean disappointment for others. We have relentlessly dumbed-down our curricula to the point where kids are entering college with no pre-calculus skills, no capacity to write a meaningful cover letter, no capacity to discern bias in a newspaper editorial.
Only the mathematics of finances is dually blessed: mathematical abstractions are sufficiently abstract that they seem free from having any impact on the "real world," and so are an acceptable pursuit to the religious. And it's about making money, which in some sense is divorced from the ethic of making good stuff. That might seem unChristian, but if it does, you're not hip to The Prosperity Gospel, which states that God provides material prosperity for those he favors.
All of these forces merge to create a situation where we've made "making money without getting your hands dirty" seem the only rational alternative. Nobody would go into the sciences in America: science is boring, hard, icky, unholy, and disruptive. And who wants that?
Frankly, I do.

It will be from two powerful, long-standing price distortions that have distorted the composition of our labor force and the mix of human capital within it. The first distortion is the past diversion of some our best technical and mathematical minds away from physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, and, yes, even economics, to financial modeling, risk analysis, and all the other marvelous tools of speculation and gaming. It's not just that management came out of business school and has no clue what engineering does, but that the talent management has to work with has been skewed downward by the immense seduction of money pulling talented engineers and scientists into studying financial alchemy rather than biochemistry or architectural engineering.
Maxine is thinking of all those bright, young, energetic people who came out of some of our best universities and opted to go to work for investment banks, not in technical jobs, but as traders, ratings specialists, analysts, again to support the conversion of trillions of dollars into chaff. Many of them might have gone on to graduate degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, engineering, biology or medicine. Graduate work in psychology, sociology, English, history, political science, public health would have added more value than destroying wealth across the globe. Instead of a workforce that gained diverse skills that might one day transform the world in positive and substantive ways, we have a surfeit of MBAs with concentrations in finance and empty houses on overgrown lots.

Eh, its a stretch I know.
I balled my eyes out uncontrollably when that "knock" came. I was hysterical and had to stop the feed.
I'm going to watch it again tonight on BBC America.
Now for the request. Usually I get the commentary from an iGoogle app. It doesn't seem to be posted where I as a Yank can find it. Anyone know where I can find the commentary for download?

So into the New Year...
...and yes, it's still going!
Group 15 opened last week and Group 14 is still running if you'd like to make a difference there.
Never too late to join in, and although you do have to register in order to vote the only price you'll pay for that is a couple of PMs each month to remind you when groups are opening or closing. Hope to see you there!

Living in the US does have it's obstacles... and one of them being viewing DW. On top of living in the US, I don't have access to BBCAmerica and am completely reliant on BBCA to upload videos on iTunes.
That being said, I just finished EoT and was left with an overwhelming amount of emotions. Of course it was distressing to watch the final scenes with Tenant. I have come to really enjoy his performance as the Doctor and will miss him immensely. Furthermore, the mysterious plots for Davis will also be missed (I just loved how he continued to keep one guessing and overlooking even the smallest clue (i.e. he will knock 4 times... I think I actually chuckled a bit when i discovered it's true reference).
But.... then there's excitement. Where I was deeply worried about Smith's arrival to the show and Moffat's new position, I am just curious to see how the duo will collaborate to sustain the show's success. Only time will tell. I don't usually get to post my thoughts about DW because I am not fortunate to view the show as early as others. However I really wanted to blog my tribute to Tenant and Davis on their departure from the show.
Alright! Bring on Season 5!

Today I started back at school.
Right at the beginning, the DW boy in the class I work with came up to me and said, "Have you seen the trailer for season 5?"
"Yes." I said.
Then, together in perfect unison, we both jumped on the spot and squeed,
